Outside of the courtroom, Murphy actively participates in several associations and organizations that advocate and contribute to the advancement of criminal defense. He currently serves as President-Elect of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, and also as a Regent for the National College for DUI Defense.  Doug previously served two terms on the board of directors and as co-chair of the DWI Committee with the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.  Murphy has been recognized in the US News & World Report list of the Best Lawyers in America by Woodward White from 2013-2017 for his successes. He was also named as a Texas Super Lawyers by Thomson Reuters in Texas Monthly in 2009; 2013-2017.  He was also awarded The Sharon Levine Unsung Hero Award by the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association for his hand in exposing the flaws in the Houston Police Department Breath Alcohol Testing vans, which led to their being decommissioned.
